Hello and welcome to the weekly “Social Show” here at NRJ. I’m Chris Larham and today I will be talking about the ‘Restos du Coeur’, a charitable organisation that distributes cheap meals to disadvantaged members of society. Founded by Coluche last century, in the ’80s, these ‘Restos’ are a great help to less fortunate individuals.

After having interviewed Mr Dupont, a volunteer worker at the ‘Resto’ in Paris, it is clear that there are a great many reasons for the impoverished state that some people find themselves in. According to Mr Dupont, unemployment, broken homes, and adolescent crises can result in people living on the street.

Alcohol and drug abuse are two significant factors leading to homelessness. Mr Dupont’s view is that young people who begin smoking cigarettes often try harder drugs, such as heroin and cannabis. Since there are so many wine-producing regions in France, it is very easy to buy and abuse alcohol.

Quoting Mr Dupont, “The ‘Resto du Coeur’ is an irreplaceable institution for everybody – for those who don’t have enough money, but also for rich people who don’t like to see homeless individuals in the street.”

I am sure that there are people listening to this show who have been affected by the serious problems mentioned earlier. If you would like to speak to a counsellor you can call us here at NRJ: 02 98 44 35 57. There is always somebody on hand to give you advice, whatever the problem. [^]
